Biography:

Count Voland El Kadir was the only child of Count El Kadir and his wife, members of a prominent noble family in the world of Aurelia. Voland, or Kad, as his few friends call him, had a tragic childhood, emblematic of the epic and horrific downfall of Aurelia.

Aurelia used to be a prominent empire, with the entirety of the planet under the emperor’s control, many colonies in the neighbouring systems and many dependencies across the sector. Aurelia was never part of the Republic, but it enjoyed very good relations with it and was a key ally in all of the Republic’s wars against the Sith and the Mandalorians.

A new empire, Gardenia, began conflicting with Aurelia’s interests. It waited for an economic crisis in Aurelia and declared a total war. The strengths were about equal, but crisis-hit Aurelia was suffering from extreme domestic problems. Desperate, it asked the Republic for help. At the advice of the Jedi Council, the Republic adopted a neutral stance. The Gardenians, on the other hand, got help from someone they did not expect.

The Sith remembered the hardships they endured from the Aurelian military, and their Emperor used the opportunity to knock off a potential enemy. Through his Imperial Agents, he poured money into the fermenting revolutionary movements in Aurelia, until one of them overthrew the Aurelian Emperor in a stunning coup d’état. Desperate to survive in the ensuing civil war, the revolutionaries began a reign of terror unprecedented in known history. Voland’s father was shot when his mother was pregnant with him. She managed to escape to Gaulus, where the Countess died giving birth to our hero. Voland was to be adopted by his mother’s relatives, but he was discovered by a Jedi Master visiting Gaulus. He offered to take the child as a padawan, and desperate to survive themselves, the relatives accepted.

As for the Gardenians, they did not get the chance to profit from Aurelia’s downfall. The Republic finally declared war on them, swiftly defeated their exhausted military and incorporated Gardenia into the Republic. The Aurelian revolutionaries did not last either. Their regime collapsed, and the new government opted for a union with the Republic.

Voland grew up unaware of his origins, showing a proficiency in the Force very few could match. At the age of 18, he was granted knighthood. Just a few days after the ceremony, his dying Master told him the truth about his origins and his parents. Disillusioned with the Jedi Order, Voland received his assignment from the Council: to investigate the Followers of Palawa and, if possible, draw them to their side for the upcoming war against the resurgent Sith. However, now he had an agenda of his own, and it was thus that he departed for Palawa…
